SCARVES ARE BEST WORKED FROM THE SIDE, WITH THE SINGLE CROCHET STITCH OR TUNISIAN CROCHET. Work 1 to 30 stitches for 250 rows (optional) 

I prefer to use the hook size 5.0 or 5.5 for both SC or TSS
